Social Work Department

Bright Start offers social work services that target the enhancement and maintenance of psychosocial functioning of children and their families.  Guiding our work are the "Systems Theory" and the "Natural Environment" philosophy which focus on understanding the dynamics, relationships, and roles between the child and their family.  Parents/caregivers are integrated into the individual treatment for their child within both home and community settings.

Initial visits include:

• Assessment of family strengths and current supports systems/resources
• Assessment of the emotional, social and behavioral functioning within the family context

Based on these assessments, an intervention plan is assembled which may provide:

• Individual and family/group counseling with parents and other family members to include appropriate skill-building activities with the child and parents
• Work to address any challenges in the child's living situation which may affect his/her maximum utilization of early intervention/preschool services
• Identification. mobilization and coordination of community resources and services to enable the maximization of the benefits early intervention/preschool services can provide the child and family

Bright Start social workers are licensed master social workers and are DIR trained.
